India send deterrent to China in its backyard:-
Today, India delivered the first batch of brahmos missile system to Philippines.
The Philippines becomes first customer of brahmos supersonic cruise missile.
The export of brahMos is part of India’s plan to strength defense cooperation with the Philippines amid rising international apprehension about China’s escalating military activities in South China Sea.
Last year, India and Philippines decided to expand their defense partnership through upgrade official level interaction among defense agencies, opening of the resident defense attache office in manila, and concessional Line of Credit to buy defense equipment.
Last month l, external affair Minister Jaishankar said India firmly support the Philippines in upholding it’s national sovereignty and wants to explore new area of cooperation, including in defense and security, amid the growing maritime dispute between the Philippines and China in the South China Sea.
China has deployed hundreds of coast guard vessel throughout the South China Sea to patrol what it considers its water, despite a 2016 Permanent Court of Arbitration ruling in Case brought by the Philippines said the claim had no basis according to international basis.
There have been frequent faceoffs between the two side in the pass few years, prompting the US and Japan to also pledge support to the Philippines.
India has also assured Vietnam of all help in modernizing its armed force, also offering the brahMos missile as well as the Akash missile defense system. In 2022, India gave Vietnam 12 high speed guard boats to built under a $100 million line.
